“I bite out of self-defense” – Suarez

The world is talking about Luis Suarez as the Uruguanian striker is about to make his debut this after in this 2014/2015 first EL CLASICO.
Suarez was handed a 4 month footballing ban
by FIFA, after he bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini on the
arm during the World Cup — an act he said was
self defense.
“Everyone has different ways of defending
themselves,”
The striker said in a recent interview with The Guardian.
“In this case my weakness was that one [biting] but there are other players who react differently by kicking, breaking a nose or punching. Some of these things are worse than others and I understand that biting is very poorly viewed. I believe I am on the right path now, dealing with the people who can help me, theright kind of people,”Luis Suarez star added.

Luis Suarez ready for Barcelona return

Luis Suarez insists he is fully ready to make his competitive debut for Barcelona against Real Madrid in 'El Clasico'.

The Uruguay forward joined Barca from Liverpool in July, but has been forced to wait for his first taste of action in La Liga due to the four-month ban he received for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

An appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) resulted in Suarez being cleared to play in non-competitive matches for his country.

After representing Uruguay in contests against Saudi Arabia and Oman during the recent international break and scoring a brace against the latter, the 27-year-old now believes he will be able to perform to the best of his ability against Madrid, in what will be Barca's first game after the expiration of his ban.

Speaking on Wednesday as he received the Golden Shoe for the 2013-2014 season, Suarez said: "I'm feeling fine physically, much better than I expected in fact.

"I can now say for sure that I'm 100 per cent at my best."

Suarez is naturally excited by the prospect of making his Barca bow at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"A footballer always has to be ready to play matches, but making my Barca debut at the Bernabeu will be very special because of the historic rivalry between the teams," he added.

"I'll be ready to do whatever the boss [Luis Enrique] orders me to do, and it's him who'll decide whether I get to play.

"I had to be patient. Training with my team-mates and spending day-to-day life with them was good for me. Now I feel much better."

Barcelona takes on Eibar this weekend.

Ancelotti: Ronaldo “Sure Bet” for 2014 Ballon d’Or

Ronaldo opened the floodgates in the third minute and Benzema doubled the lead shortly before half-time. Each completed their braces with 20 minutes remaining before Ronaldo completed the rout in front of 77,987 fans at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The win helped them leapfrog city rivals Atletico Madrid into fourth place and within four points of leaders Barcelona.

“We’re still getting better. It’s the start of the season, we have room to improve and we are growing. It was a very good game, we scored five goals and didn’t concede any,” said the 29-year-old.

The Portuguese superstar has been chief-orchestrator of Real’s rebirth after two defeats in their first three games.

Their early days wobble culminated in a 2-1 home loss to Atletico in the Madrid derby, but the Carlo Ancelotti side have reeled off six wins on the troth, scoring 27 goals in the process.

The understanding between Welshman Gareth Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo was further highlighted in the mauling of struggling Athletic, who have now secured only one point in their last five league games and are 18th in the table.

Bale provided for Ronaldo’s opener within 2 minutes of kick-off, when his smart ball from the right was headed past Gorka Iraizoz by the forward. Benzema grabbed the hosts’ second from Luka Modric floated corner.

Ronaldo slot in Real’s third after a nice partnership between Benzema and Bale ended at his feet. The ex-Manchester United stalwart later squared for Benzema to tap in the fourth. Ronaldo’s rounded up scores deflecting Pepe’s short into the corner- though the ball appeared to have come off his arm.

Ronaldo added: “Benzema, Bale and I are used to working together and we connect very well. As Ancelotti already said in the press conference, we are getting better in some aspects, such as set-pieces.

“Benzema is the best striker in La Liga for me and one of the best in the world. He deserves it and we’re very happy with him. He is a team player and Benzema and Chicharito (Javier Hernandez) are doing a great job. We’re very happy with them.”

On the partnership between Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo, manager Acelotti added: “The trio up front played fantastically. Cristiano scored three, Karim two and Bale provided assists and worked hard. When they play like that, it is fundamental to the team. The midfielders played well too and worked very hard.”

Who else for the Ballon d’Or?
Ancelotti thinks Real’s inspirational forward is the surest “bet” for the 2014 Fifa Ballon d’Or after scoring his 13th goal in six league games and his 17th of the season in all competition.

The reigning Fifa Player of the Year’s hat-trick against Athletic increased his 2014 goal haul for the European champions to 41 after 37 appearances while his assist for Benzema’s brace was his 11th.

He has so far managed 3 goals plus an assists in five international caps following Portugal’s disappointing run at the 2014 Fifa World Cup.

Ronaldo’s third treble in four league games this season tied him with Real legend Alfredo Di Stefano and ex-Athletic striker Telmo Zarra in the record for most La Liga hat-tricks.

The Italian boss said: “There’s little doubt this year, I think. I don’t think there are any bets because I don’t think there’s any doubt this year.”

Ronaldo claimed his second Ballon d’Or in January, defeating four-time winner Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery, after banging in 66 goals in 56 games in 2013 in all competitions for club and country.

Voting for the 2014 awards have already began. Ronaldo is nonetheless expected to be up against stiff competition from Barcelona talisman Messi, who has managed 39 goals and 17 assists in 34 appearances at club level and 10 goals plus an assist in 5 appearances for World Cup finalists Argentina.

Dear Wenger, Flex Your Muscles In The Transfer Market, Not On The Touchline

March 22, 2014. It is a grand affair for Arsenal. Long serving manager Arsene Wenger, is set to take charge of his 1,000th game in charge of the Gunners. It is a landmark occasion by every scale.

The party did not end well. Jose Mourinho and his gang inflicted a 6-0 thumping on 10-man Arsenal. It was Mourinho’s biggest Premier League victory as Chelsea manager. It was also the first time in Chelsea’s history that they put six past their London rivals.

In the end, though, it counted for nothing. For Chelsea that is. Mourinho endured a trophyless season, while Aaron Ramsey’s delicate outside-of-the boot flick ended Arsenal’s barren run without silverware.

The Portuguese was very aware of what just happened. And he acted swiftly. I am a huge Mourinho fan. For all his uncouth nature, he is very pragmatic and proactive. Hardly dithers. And he did not. Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas had signed for the Blues by the end of the 2014 World Cup. Mourinho knew exactly what was missing in his team and sorted it out.

Wenger did not do badly though. Alexis Sanchez arrived from Barcelona, while Mathieu Debuchy was bought as Bacary Sagna’s replacement. However, the Frenchman failed to buy a proper defensive midfielder and a replacement for Thomas Vermaelen. Like I have tweeted severally, those two decisions might cost him dear this season.

October 5, 2014. It’s another London derby. Chelsea welcome Arsenal to Stamford Bridge. Of course, we are not expecting them to blow the Gunners away like they did. But for some brutally honest Gooners like me, we know that a draw will be a miracle.

It was a simple affair really.

Twinkle-toed Eden Hazard slalomed through the heart of Wenger’s team and drew a foul from Laurent Koscielny. Martin Atkinson had an easy call to make. Penalty. The Belgian dusted himself and coolly put the home side in front. Imagine a player in the mould of Nemanja Matic, allowing Hazard all the time and space to dance through the middle. Just imagine.

While Arsenal huffed and puffed, passing for fun, Mourinho introduced another defensive midfielder in Mikel Obi (oh yes, he is a DM! Forget he masquerades as an attacking player for the Super Eagles). His plan was simple. Mikel Obi would sit along with Matic and give Fabregas room to create.

It worked a treat.

The former Gunners skipper lifted a pass through for Costa to expertly steer it past Woijiech Szczensy. Game over.

It was a limp performance from Arsenal. But their manager offered more fight on the touchline. When Gary Cahill drove through Sanchez, Wenger tried to get a good view and ended up flinging handbags with Mourinho.

Let’s be honest. When it comes to a wrestling match, Wenger might crush Mourinho. But when it is comes to speed and efficiency in transfer dealings and tactics, there is only one clear winner here. And we know who.

Whaooo... Martins Hits 17th MLS Goal

Obafemi Martins netted a brace in Seattle Sounders 4-1 win over Major League Soccer (MLS) rivals Colorado Rapids on Sunday.

The Nigeria international’s strike either side of Clint Dempsey’s opener from the spot and Marco Pappa’s effort helped Sounders race into a 3-0 lead inside 33 minutes.

Deshorn Brown pulled a goal back for Colorado two minutes to the break.

Martins got his second goal of the game 20 minutes from the end. The ex-Newcastle striker has continued to heap emphasis on his scoring form in the 2014 MLS season as he now has 17 goals from 28 matches.

Sounders are joint-top of the Western Conference standings with Los Angeles Galaxy on 60 points.

Tennis: Murray Sets Up Djokovic in Beijing

The 6th seed won 71 per cent of his first serve and saved all five break points he faced to claim a 6-1 6-4 win in one hour and 38 minutes.

The win was Murray’s 10th in 12 meetings with the Croat and his seventh successive wins, including a title run-in at the inaugural Shenzhen Open last week.

The three-time Grand Slam champion will face top seed Novak Djokovic in Saturday’s semi-final after the Serb saw off Grigor Dimitrov 6-2 6-4 to increase his record in Beijing to 22-0.

Djokovic leads the age-mate, 27, pair’s ATP head-to-head 13-8, including a four sets quarter-final win at the US Open and a straight sets quarter-final win in Miami in their only prior meetings this year.

“Andy just won last week the [Shenzhen] tournament, [he's on a] seven-match winning match streak,” said Djokovic. “I’ve seen a little bit of his matches this week. He’s hitting the ball very well. Every time I play him, it’s a huge challenge. It’s a very physical match. A lot of long rallies, exchanges. I do not expect anything less than that tomorrow.”

Dimitrov, seeded 5th in China this year, will continue his bid to qualify for a maiden year-end ATP Tour Finals at the Shanghai Masters next week.

Murray, who climbed up to 9th in the race to London with his sin over the 4th seed, joined Canadian Milos Raonic- who also won his quarter-final match in Tokyo- to leapfrog Spaniard David Ferrer in the bid for the ATP season-ending championship. The top eight at the end of the regular season will play at the ATP Tour Finals.

The Scot moved up to tenth after saving match points against Tommy Robredo to win the Shenzhen final last week.

Czech’s Thomas Berdych beat John Isner of USA 6-1 6-4 in the other quarter-finals match on Friday.

The 3rd seed saved all his break points and snatched three out of 8 presented by the 8th seed to retain hopes of reaching the ATP final showdown.

He will face the winner of the last 8 match between Spaniard Rafael Nadal and Slovakia’s Martin Klizan in the semi-final.

Martinez: Eto’s Experience “Important” for Everton

The Premier League club were second-best in Russia and waited until the 82nd meeting to draw level courtesy of the experienced European campaigner Eto’O.

The Cameroonian, 33, found space in the box to tap home Leighton Baine’s cross- his 45th European goal in 111 appearances.

Martinez said: “I think Samuel had the necessary experience and we’ll learn a lot from the game as a group. Europe is about going into the unknown.”

The strike was Eto’O’s second for the Goodison Park outfit since arriving in the summer.

Brazilian forward Ari had opened scoring for Krasnodar three minutes to the half-time break, when he capitalised on a mistake by Phil Jagielka.

The ‘Toffees’ were pegged back into their own half in the opening 20 minutes and conceded when Jagielka failed to clear Odil Ahmedov’s pass, allowing Ari through on goal to place the hosts ahead.

Krasnodar substitute Wanderson almost doubled the scoreline after the interval, but hooked his shot against the crossbar.

While Martinez’s intact defensive line-up from last weekend’s Merseyside derby struggled to fend off Krasnodar’s attack; it boiled down to Eto’O’s experience with the striker positioning himself right inside the box to poke home the equaliser.

“The experience we have in the squad is really important for us and it’s been a fantastic learning curve for us as a group,” the Spaniard explained.

“To come to a place like today, where you don’t really know what to expect and where you can’t really be yourselves and do what you are good at, it’s tough.

“Then, it’s just about the experience of waiting for your moment and keeping composed.

Everton now have four points from two games following their opening Europa League win over German side Wolfsburg and retain Group H poll position.

Ivorian Football Star,Tiote’s First Wife Faints After Hearing He Remarried On Social Media!

A married Premier League footballer who already has three children by his wife and mistress has just taken a second bride in his native Cote’Ivoire.

Cheick Tiote, 28, who earns £45,000 a week playing for Newcastle United, reportedly wed Laeticia Doukrou in a traditional ceremony earlier this month, saying taking another wife was ‘nothing unusual’ given he is a Muslim. But news of the second wedding came as a surprise to his first wife, Madah, 25, who is said to have only found out about it on Facebook. Madah, who lives with Tiote and their two children in a £1.5million house in Ponteland, Newcastle, reportedly fainted with shock when she saw the photographs of her husband marrying another woman.
Wife no 2
Meanwhile the midfielder also has a one-year-old child with mistress, 33-year-old Zimbabwean Nkosiphile Mpofu, known as Nikki.

Mistress
His agent today confirmed reports he had got married for a second time.Jean Musampa said:

‘I can say that he did get married and that it is his second marriage. This is nothing unusual. He is a Muslim.’

But his first wife, Madah, is said to have felt rather differently.According to Ivorian news website iMatin, Madah wasn’t aware of her husband taking a second wife, and found out about it through social media. They reported that she fainted when she saw the photos of her husband marrying another woman – whose name she did not know – on Facebook.

The first Mrs Tiote is now said to have forgiven her husband, but his 33-year-old Zimbabwean mistress, Ms Mpofu, is believed to have recently ended her three-year affair with the footballer after he allegedly promised to make her his wife. While she was said to have been ‘comfortable’ with his being married, she apparently decided to call the relationship off because he ‘used me like a mop’

Manchester United fans prepare ‘Come home Ronaldo’ stunt for Real Madrid’s clash with Villarreal

Supporters group United Reel have paid for a plane to fly over Saturday’s La Liga clash in a bid to bring their Portuguese favourite back to Old Trafford

A group of Manchester United fans will launch a campaign to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford this weekend, writes Rob Dawson of the Manchester Evening News.

The Portuguese superstar has been touted for a big-money return to the Red Devils next summer after reportedly growing frustrated at Real Madrid.

And now supporters group United Reel have paid for a plane to fly over Los Blancos’ clash with Villarreal on Saturday – carrying the message ‘Come home Ronaldo’.

The group’s founder Oli Grandidge told the MEN: “We have active supporters on every continent of the world and we are all united by our love for Cristiano both as a football player and as a person.
“We won’t stop until we bring Ronaldo home.

“Members from all over the world have donated their own money and resources to fund a mid game message, flown by plane, in a bid to demonstrate to Cristiano Ronaldo how much the United faithful still love and support him.

“With the current uncertainty regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future, UNITED REEL deem it essential that the player, can not only feel but actually see how much the fans still love him and how proud they are of his achievements since he left Manchester United.

Ronaldo left United for Real Madrid in 2009 for a world record fee of £80m and has since won the Spanish league title and the Champions League at the Bernabeu.

But there has been constant speculation he has grown unhappy this season after Real Madrid sanctioned Angel Di Maria’s £59.7m move to Old Trafford in August.

However, the uncertainty hasn’t affected his form on the pitch with the 29-year-old scoring eight goals in his last three games.

He has been heavily linked with a move back to United, and fuelled the transfer talk earlier this month when he revealed it was his ‘wish’ to return.

It is not the first famous United stunt as last season, a group of United fans raised £840 to pay for a plane to fly over Old Trafford with an anti-David Moyes protest.

A plane carrying the message ‘Wrong One – Moyes Out’ flew over the stadium during United’s 4-1 win over Aston Villa in March.'

The latest stunt, which is set to take place during Real Madrid’s Spanish League clash with Villarreal at Estadio El Madridgal this weekend, has cost £2,750.

'Messi called me a son of a wh*re' - Weligton

The Argentine allegedly hurled verbal abuse at the Malaga defender and, after they squared up, the Barcelona attacker was shoved to the floor via his throat

Malaga centre-back  Weligton claims  Lionel Messi called him a "son of a wh*re" and that is why he threw him to the ground in Wednesday's 0-0 draw.

Javi Gracia's men were the first team of 2014-15 to deny Barcelona all three points, as last season's La Liga runners up failed to register a shot on target at La Rosaleda.

Tensions overflowed late in the game when Weligton appeared to grab Messi by the throat, with the Argentine attacker subsequently falling backwards to ground.

Barca players were pleading with the referee to send the Brazilian defender off for his actions, though he only received a booking, but Weligton has hit back by insisting that Messi initiated the confrontation by hurling verbal abuse at him when they squared up in the 81st minute of the game.

"I tried to prevent him from passing the ball and, after the move finished, Messi turned to me and called me a son of a wh*re," the veteran centre-back, 35, told  Cope.

As well as Weligton going into the referee's book, Gerard Pique was yellow carded for his over-the-top remonstrations for the Malaga man to see red.

Messi has so far not responded to Weligton's allegations that he insulted the Brazilian.
Barca remain top of La Liga with 13 points after five games, ahead of second-placed Sevilla on goal difference, while Malaga are placed 10th with six points.

Arsenal, Puma unveil new kits

Arsenal, last night launched their new kits for the coming season, with Puma as kits maker. Each of the three kits has a unique design, inspired by the values identified by PUMA as being the foundation of Arsenal Football Club, and which form the basis of the ‘Future, Forever, Victorious’ story. The home kit stays true to the traditional red-and-white Arsenal colours that first appeared in 1933. Representing ‘Forever’, inspired by the strong and loyal fanbase Arsenal has built over the years, the round-neck shirt has a red body and white sleeves and is paired with white shorts and red-and-white hooped socks. ‘Victorious’ is the theme of the away shirt, designed in the iconic yellow and navy blue colours worn by Arsenal during some of the most famous Gunners’ away victories away, including the 1971 and 1979 FA Cup final wins, and the title-winning victory at Anfield in 1989. The V-neck shirt features a yellow body with blue sleeves, blue shorts and blue-and-yellow hooped socks. The blue and lime green ‘Future’ cup kit will be worn by Arsenal away from home in cup competitions, including the Champions League and FA Cup. It symbolises the desire for innovation and progression that has driven the club through its history, and features a button-down collared shirt with blue and sky blue striped panels across the body. The kit also features blue shorts and two-tone blue hooped socks. The team will launch the kits when they play New York Bulls in their first pre-season match in the ‘Victorious’ kit.

Luiz Suarez is off to Barcelona, Liverpool Confirms

Liverpool has confirmed the sale of striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona after they accepted a fee of around £75m pounds for the player.

Luis Suarez scored 31 goals in the premier league last season to emerge topscorer in England and has been a constant subject of transfer speculations and nearly joined Arsenal at the start of last season but Liverpool turned down a £40m+1 bid from the gunners.

Suarez is now expected to travel to Barcelona next week for his medicals before putting pen on paper for a 5-year deal as new manager Luiz Enrique steps up his rebuilding progress after selling Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez to Chelsea and Arsenal respectively.

A club statement read: “Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona. The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities, which will then conclude the transfer.

“We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield.
“Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future.”
Luiz Suarez recently failed in his attempt to overturn a four months ban by FIFA as his appeal was thrown out and the decision upheld but Barcelona is not bothered with his ‘biting’ history as they believe he will form a great partnership with Lionel Messi and Neymar next season.

Yaya Toure set to dump Manchester City for Liverpool

Yaya Toure is about to make a move to Liverpool after declaring his intention to leave Manchester City this summer. The African best player is ready to exit the Manchester club, stating the club ignored his birthday and also denied him time-off to see his brother, who later died after being held with cancer. A move to Brendan Rodgers’ side would come as a huge shock, but with his brother Kolo already at the club, as well as the Reds being set to receive a huge sum of money for the transfer of striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona, it is a move that is poised to happen. According to reports from a French newspaper ‘Le Parisien’ an international team-mates of the midfielder said: “He will do everything to ensure his departure this summer.” Toure, if not the best player at the club, he still was a crucial part of the City side, that has won two Premier League titles in the last three seasons, with him scoring 51 goals in 184 appearances for the Manchester club.

Everton signs Gareth Barry on a 3-year deal

Everton football club has announced the signing of former England International Gareth Barry on a 3-year deal.
Barry played for Everton last season on-loan from Manchester City and helped the Merseyside to a fifth place finish ahead of Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester United. He enjoyed a perfect midfield partnership with James McCarthy and manager Roberto Martinez will be delighted to have the two continue with Ross Barkley in midfield.
Speaking to Evertontv, Barry said: “I was really keen to get this sorted before the lads come back to training on Thursday. I'm delighted now that everything is signed and I'm going to be spending the next few years at Everton.
“When you are on loan, it is never the same as being a signed player. I was really settled last year - but now I am an official Everton player and it feels really good.
“From the moment I signed last year I settled in straight away. There is a fantastic history here and it was brilliant working with the manager.
“I have learned so much from him, it is a great set of players and the fans were fantastic last year - just everything about Everton feels right. The training ground, the facilities, the history - there is so much that is positive about the club.

But that is last season. Now we try to improve on that and if we do improve then we are going to be going to some very good places.

“The whole squad is always so keen to learn and never satisfied. From the manager right through the coaching staff to the players, everybody wants to improve.

“We will have to treat this season with respect - it is going to be very different with the Europa League and there are a lot more games. But I'm sure the manager will have his plans for that challenge ready and I'm looking forward to it.

“It is good to be in the dressing room alongside so much young talent. And whilst they are young, they are ready now and that is fantastic. There is a lot of experience here already and if I can add something to that, it is great.

“It is good to get back to training on Thursday now I'm signed.”

Blatter shows 'support' for Suarez

A reduced ban may likely pop up for under-fire Uruguay forward, Luis Suarez as FIFA President Sepp Blatter has stated that he wishes the Liverpool striker is back in action soonest.

Suarez was handed a four-month and nine-international match ban for biting Italian defender Gorgio Chellini; a development that has generated varying reactions.

However, it seems Blatter has been won over by Suarez decision to apologise for his act as he described the gesture as an act of fair play.

"He said 'I'm sorry' to the soccer family, and that's fair play. That shows he's a great player and I hope he can have his soccer career back” The FIFA president was quoted as saying on ESPN.

While Blatter’s comment looks to give hope to an early return for Suarez, the FIFA supremo has cautious not to join words with Uruguay President Jose Mujica who was so critical about the world football governing body.

"The president is totally independent," Blatter said, insisting Suarez's chequered past was taken into account by the disciplinary committee disappointed that an apology was slow in coming. "I can't comment on what he [Mujica] said."

To show just how much he is a priceless asset, Liverpool and Barcelona are already in talks over Suarez with a possible transfer fee of £80 million being muted

Borussia Monchengladbach captures Hazard

Bundesliga side, Borussia Monchengladbach on Thursday announced that they have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Belgium youngster, Thorgan Hazard on a season long loan.
Thorgan Hazard, who is the younger brother of Chelsea star, Eden Hazard signed for the Blues in the summer of 2012 but has yet to feature for the London side. The 21-year-old forward has spent the last two seasons on loan at Belgian side Zulte Waregem.
His loan spell has been largely successful. The youngster was voted young player of the year in the Belgian league last season and he was also invited to the national team. However, he was not included in the national team’s party to the World Cup in Brazil.
It has been suggested that Chelsea will be looking to fast track his development by loaning him to on EPL side next season but it now appears that the London club has decided to let the player continue his development at the Bundesliga.
“We were always going to make an attacking signing, no matter what the situation is with Luuk de Jong and Peniel Mlapa, and this will be Thorgan Hazard. We have exchanged contracts with Chelsea and we have agreed with Thorgan, we have all agreed and now just need to sign the contracts,” Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl told the Rheinischen Post.

‘Suarez Ban Has Set A Good Example For Other Footballers’, Says Pele

Brazilian legend and one of the greatest footballers of all time, Pele, has thrown his weight behind football governing body, FIFA for wielding the big stick against Uruguayan and Liverpool attacker, Luis Suarez, after he was found guilty of biting Italian Giorgio Chiellini in a world cup game.

Chiellini himself who was on the receiving end of Suarez’s mandibles has said the four month ban handed down to the Uruguayan was harsh; a view corroborated by Diego Maradona.
But Pele thinks the punishment was just dessert for the offense;

“Fifa’s decision is good and is correct because it sets an example,” the 73-year-old told Folha de Sao Paulo.
“If he was not sanctioned in this way, such incidents could be repeated. No player can do what Luis Suarez did. I believe that the punishment is fair because the parameter can be used henceforth.”

Pele said he was surprised by the biting incident, even though Suarez has bitten a few players in the past.
“We are used to seeing other reactions on the pitch,” the Brazilian continued.

“A header, a nudge … but a bite is really unprecedented”, Pele said.

WHAOO! Heavily pregnant athlete runs 800m race in U.S Track and Fields Championship (PHOTOS)

Despite being almost 8 months pregnant, American athlete, Alysia Montano ran 800 meters in the US Track and Fields Championships yesterday.

Montano, a 5-time national champion, finished the race in 2 minutes, 32.13 seconds in the qualifying rounds, barely seven weeks before she’s due to give birth to her first child.

The 28-year-old, who is a former University of California star, finished last in her heat but that didn’t matter to the crowd gathered at the Hornet Stadium.

Trailing the lead pack by more than 120 meters for most of the race, Montano received a rousing ovation as she finished her first lap and the cheering grew louder when she finally crossed the finish line.

“I’ve been running throughout my pregnancy and I felt really, really good during the whole process,” She said. “I just didn’t want to get lapped and be the first person to get lapped in the 800.”

Montano, who won the 800 national titles the past four years, was never in trouble of being lapped. She took a nice relaxed pace from the start and maintained it throughout.

That was according to the plan Montano laid out after consulting with her physician. Not only did doctors give Montano the OK to run, they encouraged her.
“That took away any fear of what the outside world might think about a woman running during her pregnancy,” she continued.

“What I found out mostly was that exercising during pregnancy is actually much better for the mom and the baby. … I did all the things I normally do … I just happened to be pregnant. This is my normal this year.”

Chelsea steps up Pogba chase

Chelsea are reportedly stepping their bid in pursuit of French midfielder Pogba, who has had an impressive season at Juventu. The blues are looking to take Pogba on a very lucrative deal, which will break the club’s history, with the sum of €75 million Juventus are determined to keep Pogba as they consider him a huge player both for now and the future as they look to retain their place among the European elite and improve on recent poor showings in the Champions League. As things seems, Juventus are not willing to sell the player and his ambition is to renew the player’s contract but, particularly in the recent history of Italian football, everyone has their price. Chelsea are looking to strengthen its midfield, as Frank Lampard has been released, and with Matic on form alongside new signing Cesc Fabregas, addition of Pogba would make Chelsea more of a title contender next season. His current deal has two years to run and the club will have to improve his contarct at Juventus to get Chelsea off him. Guiseppe Marotta, the general manager of the Serie A club, said last month: “We intend to extend Pogba’s contract and we have already spoken with his agent. Paul is a smart guy and this is the perfect place for him to improve further. You cannot imagine him leaving Juventus.”
