ABUJA BOMB BLAST: 21 people confirmed dead, 35 injured, 17 cars destroyed

An explosion has reportedly rocked Emab plaza in Wuse 2, Abuja. The source of the explosion was from a car that was driving into the premises, witness confirm. Earlier reports from Nigerian users of micro-blogging site, Twitter, claim the blast came from a car and ‘felt’ like a bomb went off. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), men of the Fire service as well as security operatives have since arrived the scene. Emergency workers have reportedly evacuated bodies and the injured to the Maitama District hospital. The number of casualties haven’t been confirmed by NEMA but a witness has revealed that a lot of people died. According to reports from Premium Times, the Police have confirmed that 21 people have died and 17 others have sustained injuries from the blast. A lone suspect has been arrested. The blast occurred at the busy plaza at about 4p.m. local time, setting off a huge fire. Witnesses say the explosion went off when a bomb-laden car drove through the gate of the shopping mall. The explosion destroyed 17 cars, Police Spokesperson, Mr. Mba has said. There are indications the casualty figures will rise. At the Maitama hospital were victims were rushed to, the medical director confirmed that 35 injured and 12 bodies were received. General Hospital, Garki, has also confirmed receiving seven injured victims of the attack. Soldiers and security operatives have cordoned the scene of the blast. No group or persons have claimed responsibility for the attack. Abuja as well as several other Northern Nigerian states has been the target of deadly attacks by infamous terrorist group Boko Haram in recent times.
