GLAM AFRICA UK Launch Set For London Fashion Week February 2015

Glam Africa is a new platform established to promote African fashion and culture in London and surrounding areas through a yearly fashion show, daily updated fashion/ lifestyle website and free glossy fashion/ lifestyle magazine which will be distributed in London.

Glam Africa Fashion Night (GAFN) is a unique fashion party that will attract 800 fashionable guests and it will hold during London Fashion Week, February 2015. The event, which will be the first of a series of such annual events will showcase exquisite collections from 15 luxury African Fashion designers. They will be mainly established African designers most of whom have clothed international celebrities.

The fashion show which is being tagged A Night Of Fashion, Glamour and music will include performances and entertainment from African and British artistes. As well as the UK audience, a number of guests – high profile personalities and celebrities will fly in from different African countries to attend the event. GAFN will hold in a glamorous central London venue which will be announced shortly.

AFN will also double as the launch of the cosmopolitan new age African fashion handbook – Glam Africa Magazine. This will be a medium to target Africans in London and surrounding areas through print media. It will be a free glossy fashion/lifestyle magazine which will be printed monthly and distributed at upmarket and high traffic locations.

The magazine will focus on modern fashion for men and women, showcasing mainly works of African fashion designers. A large section

of the magazine will be dedicated to beauty, lifestyle, food and travel. Each issue will have fashion editorials, features from celebrated guest writers, celebrity interviews and fashion shots for the cover

With over 1 Million Africans living in the UK and 13% of Londoners being of full Black descent, Glam Africa intends to fill a gap In the community by creating its fashion and cultural platforms. Glam Africa will also launch a daily updated fashion and lifestyle website/forum in December 2014 to increase its online audience and popularity.

Arsenal, last night launched their new kits for the coming season, with Puma as kits maker. Each of the three kits has a unique design, inspired by the values identified by PUMA as being the foundation of Arsenal Football Club, and which form the basis of the ‘Future, Forever, Victorious’ story. The home kit stays true to the traditional red-and-white Arsenal colours that first appeared in 1933. Representing ‘Forever’, inspired by the strong and loyal fanbase Arsenal has built over the years, the round-neck shirt has a red body and white sleeves and is paired with white shorts and red-and-white hooped socks. ‘Victorious’ is the theme of the away shirt, designed in the iconic yellow and navy blue colours worn by Arsenal during some of the most famous Gunners’ away victories away, including the 1971 and 1979 FA Cup final wins, and the title-winning victory at Anfield in 1989. The V-neck shirt features a yellow body with blue sleeves, blue shorts and blue-and-yellow hooped socks. The blue and lime green ‘Future’ cup kit will be worn by Arsenal away from home in cup competitions, including the Champions League and FA Cup. It symbolises the desire for innovation and progression that has driven the club through its history, and features a button-down collared shirt with blue and sky blue striped panels across the body. The kit also features blue shorts and two-tone blue hooped socks. The team will launch the kits when they play New York Bulls in their first pre-season match in the ‘Victorious’ kit.

Alexis Sanchez has officially join North London Club, Arsenal for a fee around 32 million pounds from Barcelona. According to reports, the Chilean underwent a successful medical in the capital with Arsenal expected to announce the signing of the 25-year-old by the end of the week. ‘Alexis is a fantastic footballer… he has consistently produced top-quality performances at the highest level,’ says Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger after the signing. The Chile international scored 2 goals and had an assist at the ongoing World Cup in Brazil, in which Chile lost to Brazil in the round of 16 on penalty shoot-out.

Liverpool has confirmed the sale of striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona after they accepted a fee of around £75m pounds for the player.

Luis Suarez scored 31 goals in the premier league last season to emerge topscorer in England and has been a constant subject of transfer speculations and nearly joined Arsenal at the start of last season but Liverpool turned down a £40m+1 bid from the gunners.

Suarez is now expected to travel to Barcelona next week for his medicals before putting pen on paper for a 5-year deal as new manager Luiz Enrique steps up his rebuilding progress after selling Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez to Chelsea and Arsenal respectively.

A club statement read: “Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona. The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities, which will then conclude the transfer.

“We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield.
“Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future.”

A candle light service was held last night in honour of the late Gospel singer, Kefee. Guests at the service bade a tearful farewell to the singer at the Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre in Benin City, Edo State Friends and family of the late songstress gathered together in the hall, lit candles and listened to sermons, songs and speeches rendered in the honour of the gem. Some of those who performed included Maleke, Benjamin Okorodion, Ifeoma Ikusemoro, Godfather and Asemota. Singer, Kefee died on Friday, June 13, 2014 and is to be buried in her hometown of Sapele, Delta State on Friday, July 11, 2014. May her soul Rest in Peace.

Yaya Toure set to dump Manchester City for Liverpool

Yaya Toure is about to make a move to Liverpool after declaring his intention to leave Manchester City this summer. The African best player is ready to exit the Manchester club, stating the club ignored his birthday and also denied him time-off to see his brother, who later died after being held with cancer. A move to Brendan Rodgers’ side would come as a huge shock, but with his brother Kolo already at the club, as well as the Reds being set to receive a huge sum of money for the transfer of striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona, it is a move that is poised to happen. According to reports from a French newspaper ‘Le Parisien’ an international team-mates of the midfielder said: “He will do everything to ensure his departure this summer.” Toure, if not the best player at the club, he still was a crucial part of the City side, that has won two Premier League titles in the last three seasons, with him scoring 51 goals in 184 appearances for the Manchester club.

Everton football club has announced the signing of former England International Gareth Barry on a 3-year deal.
Barry played for Everton last season on-loan from Manchester City and helped the Merseyside to a fifth place finish ahead of Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester United. He enjoyed a perfect midfield partnership with James McCarthy and manager Roberto Martinez will be delighted to have the two continue with Ross Barkley in midfield.

Everton football club has announced the signing of former England International Gareth Barry on a 3-year deal.

Barry played for Everton last season on-loan from Manchester City and helped the Merseyside to a fifth place finish ahead of Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester United. Lionel Messi believes the current Argentine squad is a compact one and not a one-man team. Messi told The Times of India, “I absolutely do not agree that Argentina are nothing without me.

“Football is a team game, so whoever says that does not portray the actual scenario.

“Yes, I scored a few important goals which have helped our team, but there are 10 other members of the team who helped us reach where we are now.

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State on Tuesday said his administration would soon start a new policy that would enable Lagos residents to own their homes after paying rents for a specified period of time. According to the governor, the new policy is known as “Rent to Own” initiative coming under the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme. He added that the initiative would encourage more residents to participate in the state housing scheme. According to reports from The Punch, Fashola said this during a special interactive session with artisans in the state in Ikeja, explaining that a research conducted by his team showed that traders, transport operators, bricklayers and fashion designers, among others in the informal sector could conveniently pay for the homes across the state. He said, “The investigations indicated that most people in the informal sector could also afford the mortgage scheme, going by their monthly income and profit. So, the Rent to Own initiative will further make the scheme affordable for all and sundry. “I urge you to apply for your choice homes in the scheme because government will, through the Lagos Mortgage Board, ensure that artisans benefit from the scheme. The board will allocate blocks of flat to you in accordance with your monthly income and profit to enable you take part in the scheme. “What we need to do now is to help you order your record keeping in order for you to qualify. This is a new policy that is slightly different from the mortgage scheme itself, but will ultimately lead to mortgage. Your money will be saved monthly and put in the scheme.” Fashola also took time to brief the participants on security measure put in place in the state and urged them to be involved in the Residents’ Registration and the Commercial Drivers’ exercises of the government. Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, the chairman of Lagos State National Union of Road Transport Workers,said average commercial drivers in the state could afford the homes and would participate in the scheme.He said, “Commercial drivers earn between N45,000 and N70,000 monthly. This is a good development; the Rent to Own initiative will make the housing affordable to our members.” Commissioner for Housing, Bosun Jeje, said the meeting was to encourage artisans to partake in the LagosHOMS.

This is a real SHOCKER…. Edo-born Gospel comedian, Edobor Charles, aka Edo Charles and wife, Vera Adiche allegedly called it a day after dating for a decade and 6 days of marriage. The comedian cited infidelity as the reason for the split, while Vera (his wife) accused him of not supporting her singing career and neglecting her. The couple who walked down the aisle, November 27,2010 at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Victoria Island, Lagos according to reports met at a church programme in Surulere, Lagos over a decade ago. Via YES International Magazine: Edo accused his wife of having an affair with her boss, Anesi Igharue, leader of the popular Sharp Band. Sources who have been following their unfolding divorce mess even alleged that Vera is currently pregnant for Amesi. Also, that he has rented a flat for her in Jakande Estate, Lekki, Lagos. Anesi and his band performs every Wednesday at Soul Lounge, Lekki and at Crescendo, on Isaac John Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos every Friday. One of the biggest bands in country, they are regularly busy at high profile events. From Agenebode, in Edo State, Anesi has five daughters – two from his first wife and three from his second, Blossom. The second wife is also alleged to have moved out of their Lekki home over this raging adultery allegation. Exactly 6 days after their wedding, they had a serious disagreement, the woman moved out of their Surulere, Lagos home and returned 21 days later with two bouncers, her brother and others to pack all her belongings. Efforts to reconcile them by concerned well wishers and family members did not yield any fruitful results until sometime in 2011 when she filed for divorce. The matter is still pending in court. Edo Charles, a popular gospel comedian, is also in his 30s. Slim and fair skinned, the rib cracker is the creator of Enter The Laughter With Edo Charles, a free comedy programme which he takes round the churches to spread the gospel. Contacted on Thursday, July 3, 2014, the Benin City, Edo State born laughter merchant said he didn’t have anything to say. “I have no comments”. Later in the day when we also got in touch with Anesi, he denied it, saying: “I’m just hearing this from you. I don’t even understand this at all. I don’t know anything about any lady called Vera. Yes, I’m the leader of the band, but I’m surprised at this your investigation because I don’t know how much of a public person I am. I don’t even know this Vera you are talking about”, he repeated one more time. On her part, Vera was very furious when we got in touch with her at exactly 12:18pm. Hear her: “How can you call to tell me such things? I’ve been working for Sharp Band for 8 years now and it’s now that you are saying such things. You are an investigative journalist, when you get your answers right on the question you asked, then you can call me back. This does not make any sense to me. I don’t have time for all these games. This Vera issue has been there for long. It is an open secret. I’m separated from my husband as a result of this. But what do you expect both of them to say? They would lie to you of course. I was married to Anesi in 2004. That was about 10 years ago and got separated from him about 2 years ago. I had three children for him and he had two other issues before we got married, making five children that are under my care. Anyway, I’m at work now. I will call you back…”

Tinubu’s friends created Boko Haram – Obanikoro

Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, on Wednesday alleged that the Boko Haram insurgency plaguing the nation was a creation of friends of former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu. He claimed that those friends had vowed to make Nigeria ungovernable for President Goodluck Jonathan. According to reports from Daily Independent, Obanikoro, took to twitter to react to a statement credited to Tinubu accusing him (Obanikoro) of concentrating more on politics than insecurity. He stressed that such allegation against him was rather unfortunate. Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressves Congress (APC), had alleged in the statement that Obanikoro had spent more time in Ekiti than Chibok, where over 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents in April. According to Tinubu, the action of Obanikoro not only amounted to irresponsible democratic governance, but also a hoax. But Obanikoro reacted angrily to Tinubu’s allegation, saying it was evident that Tinubu was only attacking him for political reasons and not on democratic ideals. “The Boko Haram mess we are dealing with was created by Tinubu’s friends who promised to make Nigeria ungovernable for this government. “Tinubu and politicians like him should devote their time and efforts towards supporting the government in fighting Boko Haram. “I hope Tinubu knows that attacking Obanikoro over Ekiti is crying over spilt milk. We have bigger issues to deal with as a nation,” Obanikoro stated. The minister added that “the government was battling with the security mess created by Tinubu’s friends”, warning that Tinubu and his friends should rather support the government in fighting Boko Haram or hold their peace.

A reduced ban may likely pop up for under-fire Uruguay forward, Luis Suarez as FIFA President Sepp Blatter has stated that he wishes the Liverpool striker is back in action soonest.

Suarez was handed a four-month and nine-international match ban for biting Italian defender Gorgio Chellini; a development that has generated varying reactions.

However, it seems Blatter has been won over by Suarez decision to apologise for his act as he described the gesture as an act of fair play.

"He said 'I'm sorry' to the soccer family, and that's fair play. That shows he's a great player and I hope he can have his soccer career back” The FIFA president was quoted as saying on ESPN.

While Blatter’s comment looks to give hope to an early return for Suarez, the FIFA supremo has cautious not to join words with Uruguay President Jose Mujica who was so critical about the world football governing body.

"The president is totally independent," Blatter said, insisting Suarez's chequered past was taken into account by the disciplinary committee disappointed that an apology was slow in coming. "I can't comment on what he [Mujica] said."

Bundesliga side, Borussia Monchengladbach on Thursday announced that they have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Belgium youngster, Thorgan Hazard on a season long loan.
Thorgan Hazard, who is the younger brother of Chelsea star, Eden Hazard signed for the Blues in the summer of 2012 but has yet to feature for the London side. The 21-year-old forward has spent the last two seasons on loan at Belgian side Zulte Waregem.
His loan spell has been largely successful. The youngster was voted young player of the year in the Belgian league last season and he was also invited to the national team. However, he was not included in the national team’s party to the World Cup in Brazil.
It has been suggested that Chelsea will be looking to fast track his development by loaning him to on EPL side next season but it now appears that the London club has decided to let the player continue his development at the Bundesliga.
“We were always going to make an attacking signing, no matter what the situation is with Luuk de Jong and Peniel Mlapa, and this will be Thorgan Hazard. We have exchanged contracts with Chelsea and we have agreed with Thorgan, we have all agreed and now just need to sign the contracts,” Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl told the Rheinischen Post.
